How to make handkerchief baby helmets

How to create a baby helmet from a handkerchief

Method 1:

How to make a bonnet out of your handkerchief (hanky):

You should start with a handkerchief (hankie) of at least 12 "x 12" in size. A larger size is also good. You want more fabric to work with then.

Fold one end of the handkerchief (hanky) back approx. 2/3, and press the fold.

Then fold again about half the distance. The result is an accordion that looks fold.

Fold the other end back approx. 1/2 "to form a housing. Press the fold.

With very long back seams, sew the half-empty fold at the bottom of the edge (or lace).

Gather the fabric tightly and tie the threads together in a knot. You can insert a decorative ribbon to gather through the lining stitch instead of pulling on the threads. This would make it easier to take the bonnet apart when it was later used as a handkerchief. For a boy, you might want to use a blue ribbon and a pink ribbon for a girl.

The tape is attached with a small adhesive stitch.

That is it. It's not as complicated as it may sound. Just be patient, then you can do it.

How to make a handkerchief cap:

Place the hanky on a flat surface, fold one edge back about an inch, and press. This folded edge is the front of your bonnet.

Fold the opposite edge approx. three inches back and press. This will be the back of the Baby bonnet.

Open the handkerchief and make a series of stitch stitches along the back fold of the bonnet (in the fold). Do not knot. Fold the handkerchief (hanky) along the pressed line.

Fold the front corner of the handkerchief back at an angle to form a small triangle in the corner. Add a length of ribbon for binding. Repeat this in the opposite front corner.

While the handkerchief is still folded along the pressed line, pull the thread used in the shake seam to gather the hanky to form your bonnet. Continue pulling in groove stitching until you reach the required bonnet size.
